There’s a story behind every bathroom, especially in a home that’s been lived in for decades. At VanderBeken Remodel, we believe high-quality design and craftsmanship should be executed by one team to completely reshape how your bathroom feels, functions, and supports your needs.
In this article, we showcase five before-and-after bathroom remodel projects in Snohomish and King counties, each with their own style and challenges. By detailing the layout changes, design decisions, and improvements, you’ll see how a professional renovation can transform a tired room into a space that feels luxurious, welcoming, and supportive.
Project 1: Spa-Like Primary Bathroom Remodel — Camano Island, WA

BEFORE
Before
This primary bathroom in Camano Island had strong potential, but unfortunately, the layout limited how the homeowners could use the space. A large glass-block wall separating the bathroom and bedroom limited privacy, and the open toilet area felt somewhat exposed. The interior was dated, and the double vanities took up too much visual and physical space while contributing little to the overall balance and flow.
After
During the reconfiguration, which was part of a whole-house remodel, our team prioritized changes focused on privacy, openness, and day-to-day practicality. A full wall now separates the bathroom from the bedroom, while a dedicated toilet nook adds privacy.
We installed a single floating vanity with dual sinks, which gives the room more breathing space. An LED-framed mirror adds efficient lighting that also enhances the modern ambiance. A freestanding soaking tub sits in full view of the natural light pouring through the large window and patio doors, with a glass-enclosed shower balancing the layout.

“When I first walked through that Camano Island bathroom, I saw the potential in those light-filled windows and knew that with the right layout adjustments, we could give the homeowners both privacy and openness. Removing the glass block wall was a big move—financially and structurally—but it was essential to achieving that spa-like feel,” says Ron VanderBecken, Owner and General Manager of VanderBeken Remodel.
Project 2: En Suite & Hall Bathroom Remodel in Shoreline, WA

BEFORE
Before
The homeowners of this Shoreline property sought to transform two outdated main-floor bathrooms. They obviously had good potential but were restricted by poor layouts. The hall closet between the two rooms limited the possible functionality of the spaces, while the fixtures and finishes in both bathrooms felt decidedly dated. The family wanted more light, more room, and better, more attractive facilities.
After
We merged both bathrooms and the hall closet into a spacious, luxurious ensuite, featuring a walk-in shower, separate toilet room, and a double vanity. Alongside it, we designed and constructed a sleek, modern hall bathroom with a single vanity, toilet, and tub/shower combination.
Both spaces have their own unique flair and identity through distinct tile choices, while custom walnut vanities and quartz countertops keep everything stylishly cohesive. For added comfort and luxury, heated floors, pocket door mirrors, and floating shelves were installed.

“This was one of those jobs where collaboration with the homeowner really elevated the result. Their desire for natural light, for elegant tile work, also for smart touches like mirror lighting and storage—those were things we built into the design from day one. It’s always rewarding when what we build reflects both our vision and theirs,” says Jennifer VanderBecken, Owner and Director of Operations.
Project 3: Vintage-Inspired Hall Bathroom Remodel in Marysville, WA

BEFORE
Before
The family of five in this Maryville property knew their upstairs hall bathroom was in serious need of a refresh. It was hardly being used due to its lack of functionality. A sloped ceiling made it difficult to stand comfortably in the tub/shower, while the ageing 1960s-era plumbing was leaking and in poor condition. The dated décor didn’t help either, with the lavender countertop and painted backsplash tiles failing to match the family’s needs or style.
After
We focused on reworking the existing floor plan to maximize functionality without moving walls. The old tub was replaced with a new shower positioned where the toilet once stood. A glass shower wall and door let in more natural light into the interior as a whole, making the narrow space feel larger and more welcoming.
The homeowners wanted a vintage-inspired look, so we introduced a freestanding white shaker-style vanity that adds character, charm, and storage without overwhelming the room. Matte-black fixtures provide a clean contrast, and marble hexagon tiles on the shower floor add a classic touch. Warm-glow vintage lights and Manoa LVP flooring complete the desired look.

“Families are constantly telling us they want a guest or hall bath that feels special, even if it’s not the primary bathroom. With this Marysville home, we were constrained by ceiling slopes and plumbing—but by being creative, we turned limitations into defining design moments. The shower wall, the contrast of matte black fixtures against vintage touches—those were things I’m proud of,” says Ron.
Project 4: Classic Contemporary Primary Bathroom Remodel in Lake Stevens, WA

BEFORE
Before
The original bathroom in this Lake Stevens home was stark, minimalist, and lacked any visual warmth. The corner tub felt dated, the shower needed an upgrade, and the ageing vanity offered nothing of note. A serene, spa-like retreat was the vision the homeowners desired, and their existing bathroom was anything but.
After
We kept the original layout intact and focused on enhancing the space with modern materials and elevated details. Euro-style walnut custom cabinetry introduced natural warmth, which was paired with soft-close drawers and brushed satin nickel hardware for a polished look.
Additionally, we incorporated a large LED-backlit mirror to give the interior a gentle glow, which is further supported by a mirrored cabinet nearby that adds much-needed extra storage. Quartzite countertops, a freestanding soaking tub, and porcelain tile floors with radiant heat all contribute to a spa-like feel.
The walk-in shower includes rain and handheld heads, a recessed niche, and a wide glass enclosure that visually connects with the cabinetry. A picture window offers serene treetop views, beautifully completing the overall spa-like ambiance.

“For this Lake Stevens remodel, the challenge was: how do you keep the bones but infuse the space with warmth and luxury? The walnut cabinetry and radiant heated floors helped us do just that. The homeowners wanted something timeless—and that’s what the team set out to deliver,” says Jennifer.
Project 5: Universal Design Primary Bathroom Remodel with Indigo Accents in Everett, WA

BEFORE
Before
This 1958 primary bathroom in Everett had reached a point where comfort, safety, and long-term usability were seriously compromised. A leaky shower floor had damaged the subfloors, and the overall space felt dated and impractical. With plans to stay in the property for the foreseeable future, the homeowners knew the bathroom issues needed to be addressed and so approached VanderBeken Remodel.
After
Our team listened closely to the homeowner’s ideas and concerns. They desired an ensuite bathroom that incorporated universal design features to support long-term use and aging-in-place. So that’s what we did. We removed the shower entry drywall and framing to increase the usable space without modifying the existing footprint.
“As someone committed to building for the long term, this Everett project was especially meaningful. We didn’t just want to make it look good—we wanted to make sure the homeowners can live in this bathroom comfortably for decades. Incorporating universal design elements from the start makes that possible,” says Ron.
We installed a continuous matte porcelain tile across both the bathroom and shower floors, and enclosed the shower with a pocket door and privacy glass. This created a pleasing visual flow and a greater sense of spaciousness. The zero-threshold shower, strategically placed grab bars, and a handheld shower on an adjustable bar bring accessible comfort without sacrificing style.
Storage was another priority for the homeowners. We added a custom vanity with mixed-depth drawers, an inset medicine cabinet, and floating shelves above the toilet. Motion-sensor LED lighting at the toe kick, and modern faucets and fixtures, complete the transformation with touches of functionality mixed with elegance.
