Homeowner Needs
When these homeowners first toured this 1983 custom home in Snohomish, it was clear the finishes were stuck in another era. Dated wallpaper, aging vinyl flooring, worn cabinetry, and harsh fluorescent lighting overshadowed the home’s potential.
But beneath the outdated surfaces, they recognized something worth investing in: a solidly built home with a thoughtful layout and strong architectural bones. Rather than seeing a project to “fix,” they saw an opportunity to transform a well-constructed space into a modern home that reflected their personal style and elevated how they wanted to live.
Remodeling Solution
Removing the overhead soffit made an immediate difference, creating a greater sense of height and allowing for taller cabinetry with expanded storage. Replacing the dated wallpaper and heavy knockdown texture with smooth walls gave the kitchen a clean backdrop for a bold, modern palette.
Rich blue lower cabinets anchor the space, while crisp white uppers keep it feeling bright and open. Waterfall-edge Cambria Inverness Bristol Bay quartz countertops extend into a full-height backsplash, adding subtle movement and polish. A thoughtfully selected appliance suite, to include a stainless steel Thermador single wall oven and professional speed oven, Thermador induction cooktop with Zephyr range hood, Bosch dishwasher, and a Sub-Zero Classic Series French Door refrigerator, brings performance and precision to the heart of the kitchen.
Stanton Oakdale Brownstone 9” x 60” luxury vinyl plank flooring adds warmth and durability, grounding the space with a natural wood tone. Overhead, Kuzco Bolla mini pendants illuminate the sink and peninsula, while a coordinating Kuzco Bolla chandelier adds a sculptural focal point. Together, these elements create a kitchen designed to support everyday cooking, effortless entertaining, and the natural rhythm of daily life.
Challenge
Preserving the existing windows was a priority for the homeowners, so the new design needed to thoughtfully incorporate them rather than replace them.
While most of the windows simply required updated trim and casing, the bay window at the sink presented a unique design challenge. The placement of the window and the new countertop needed to work together without feeling forced or disconnected.
During the design phase, we developed a solution that created a subtle window ledge on either side of the sink, then extended that ledge into the bay as raised counter space. Close collaboration between our project manager and countertop fabricator ensured the final installation felt intentional, seamless, and fully integrated into the overall design.
Result
The finished kitchen strikes a confident balance between bold design and everyday livability. Clean lines, rich color, and layered textures come together in a way that feels fresh without chasing trends. What once felt dated now feels purposeful and refined—a space that reflects the homeowners’ vision and truly supports the way they live.
What We Love
Projects like this remind us how powerful thoughtful remodeling can be. When homeowners see beyond surface finishes and invest in the potential of a well-built home, the transformation can be remarkable.
Here, the subtle integration of appliances behind custom cabinetry creates a streamlined look, while innovative storage solutions maximize space and add everyday convenience. The result is a kitchen that feels as functional as it is beautiful.
