Homeowner Needs
This home began as a modest apartment above a double garage on a sprawling property in rural Snohomish County. When the homeowners purchased it as a young couple, they envisioned transforming the space into a small homestead. However, as their family grew, the one-bedroom, one-bathroom layout quickly became too cramped. Determined to stay and expand, they set out to reimagine their home—creating a warm, functional, and character-filled space that would grow with their needs while maintaining the integrity of their original vision.
Remodeling Solution
The transformation of this home was achieved through a thoughtful garage conversion followed by a 1,100-square-foot addition, dramatically enhancing both space and functionality. The new entryway now features a welcoming powder room and cozy reading nook, while the expanded layout includes a hall bath, a spacious bedroom, and an airy, light-filled living room. French doors off the living room open onto a beautiful stone patio, seamlessly blending indoor and outdoor living. Wide doorways now create a natural flow between the existing library/music room, adjoining bedrooms, and the new addition, ensuring a cohesive and inviting home for the growing family.
Result
The remodel created a seamlessly connected floor plan that, while not traditionally “open concept,” is thoughtfully designed to reflect the family’s unique lifestyle. At VanderBeken Remodel, we believe every project should be a true reflection of our clients’ needs and vision, and this home is a perfect example. Beyond the interior and exterior transformation, the homeowners have also cultivated a stunning Northwest oasis with an English garden touch—reminiscent of The Herbfarm in Woodinville—adding even more charm and character to their beautiful property.
